A sunrise run to the pyramids was a great way to start the day! The orange sun shone through the haze as the camel tenders walked their animals out of the stalls for another day of haggling with tourists for a ride. The route back was along a trash filled canal punctuated with tea carts and an aspiring futbol star who ran wind sprints in a sand lot under the freeway overpass.
It was wonderful to see the surprise on people`s faces at a runner… and a woman! but then to hear their shouts of ELA(GO) or a thumbs up. It made me realize that sports really are a uniting interest. I look forward to the next rest day and another sunrise run with cleaner air as I think my lungs can only handle it here once per lifetime.
We just had our second rider meeting with granola bar and timing chip distribution. My bas are repacked..again… to account for the logistics changes due to the uncertainty of sudan. We still intend to go through but the final decision has not been made. My bike and gear are staged for a 0500 wake up and then 63 of us from 15 countries set out at 630 for Cape Town!
