We headed out of camp to a chill in the air, but as the sun rose over the Zambian mountains it quickly thawed us out and brought with it an array of beautiful colors reflected over the tree tops. There’s nothing like the freshness of a new day dawning, and we were so happy to be out there on our bikes to enjoy it. The morning flew by as Kendra and I talked and pedaled at a steady pace. We joined some co-riders at a Coke stop, which quickly turned into a dance party on the porch of the store. Zambian music was pumping from the window of the kiosk and we starting shaking our hips, it didn’t take long until some locals joined in!
Later, as we were reaching the edges of Lusaka, Kendra and I both started craving ice-cream and wished for somewhere to stop and buy some. All of a sudden we heard a cow bell ringing and when we looked over we spotted a man riding a bicycle with a big fridge full of ice-creams.. the Zambian version of an ice-cream man! Ice-cream never tasted so good!! As we enjoyed the vanilla ice cream covered in chocolate, we waved down other riders behind us and every single one of them pulled over for a treat!
When we got into camp at a Lusaka hotel, the staff had a good beat playing out of one of the trucks and the dance party continued! As the day was relatively short we had plenty of time to enjoy the afternoon, we headed into town to a mall where we ate lots of amazing food, caught up on emails and did a little bit of shopping. Later we returned to the hotel where I joined some other TDA riders at the hotel bar, where the dancing continued! What a fun day, lots of dancing and ice-cream dreams granted, and some beautiful bike riding in between!
