Our two rest days in Lilongwe were filled with catching up on internet, relaxing by the pool, making up for the calories lost while riding, a bit of shopping and of course a Malawi massage! The massage at the Crossroads Hotel was the best I’ve had on tour, although Kendra is the African massage expert so I’ll leave it to her to provide a professional rating. We each emerged sleepy and happy, feeling completely relaxed and at peace.
I had spent 2 weeks in Lilongwe 6 or 7 years earlier for work with Norconsult and I barely recognized the city! It had grown so much, with strip malls and many more chain shops, all a little overwhelming. One establishment that didn’t disappoint, however, was Don Brioni’s, a little Italian restaurant that I had visited on my last trip and where we enjoyed an amazing dinner with a big group of TDA riders. The food was amazing, the wine was flowing, and the laughter never stopped. Thanks for welcoming us in and providing us with an unforgettable evening in Lilongwe!
Malawi has been an unexpected treat for all of us on the ride, we will be sad to be leaving tomorrow, but excited to see what Zambia may bring!
