It feels like we just arrived in Kenya and we are already saying goodbye. The ten days were filled with experiences that I will remember for a lifetime.
It was an uneventful 150 km from Nairobi to the border of Tanzania -several of the full riders even said easy and all the new sectionals (there are A LOT) made it the full day. Kari stayed in Nairobi with her family for two extra days and I rodethe purple van all day. It was a long day on the van becase of the horrendous morning traffic and then we got lost twice. I was thankful for beautiful scenery, fun van companions, and interesting conversations with Claire and Elvis. Elvis is a staff member from Tanzania who is incredbly knowledgable about the anthropology biology and history of eastern Africa. An hour conversation with him was better than any book or pbs special. After dinner he also gave a detailed country brief that we all learned from.
In between the long van ride and country brief, I spent the afternoon in the kitchen helping to make dinner for 93 people- that is a lot of vegetables to chop! Afterwards I did my daily visit to the clinic\lunch truck and am happy to report that I am minus two bandages and healing well! A night in a bed tonight and then three days of rest will speed the recovery too. Onto Tanzania!
Here we go! Good to see your journal again Kendra and a picture of you…..even if you do (did) have bandages! Hugs and love heading your way….fwap, fwap, fwap
Very proud of you Kendra and glad you are in good spirits! How fun to have some family down time with Kari. Best to you both! We just got back from a skiing weekend in Sun Valley with friends. Fabulous!
Headed to Pensacola next week – work for Cutler and we’re going to meet up with Daryl – she’s trying out for the Women’s Military Soccer Team! Did you know Iris, Kate Sanford and I are headed to Estes Park in June? Very excited!
