HIGHS: We ascended to over 3100m and reached the highest point of the ride. The views were just gorgeous, the weather breezy and crisp.
LOW: By the time I got to the summit, I lost my voice and was ill with what I think is the flu. The lack of of voice changed the experience today of dealing with the children. The last few days I have adopted the strategy of singing, “You are my sunshine” when the kids approach… they love musica! But without a voice it was a different story…
HIGH: The support and love of fellow riders, Bastiaan, James, and Liam ensured that I completed the ride when I couldn’t breathe and just wanted to pull over to the side of the road and sleep. We did find a great hotel where I slept on the couch for an hour and a half while they devoured cheeseburgers.
ULTRA HIGH: Most amazing camp site on the rim of the gorge. I recovered on my sleeping roll under a tree reading with the eagles soaring overhead and the wind dancing in the trees. Amazing!
