I arrived last night at the Cairo airport with bike and bag! After all the stories I had heard of lost luggage, I was truly amazed and thankful. Two other riders were on my same flight so it was great to meet them. Getting to know the 60 other riders from over 10 countries will be part of the fun of the next four months.
Day 1 in Africa was spent with Sara, a new American friend, and Hussein, her Egyptian driver, touring around Cairo. The city is alive with smells, sights, and sounds. After seven hours of seeing Sultan Hassan, Al Raifi, and Ahmed ibn Tulun mosques, Moqqatan church, and Khan Al Khalili market (taking the occasional break for tea and koshary), we returned to her lovely home with black noses from the pollution.
Pictures and posts may be few and far between as I am learning about the connectivity challenges. Stay tuned!
